Projects

TorIX is a community-run Exchange and looks for projects to assist members and the wider Internet community.

Network Time Protocol (NTP) Servers - ntp.torix.ca - [reachability: Internet-wide]

We run stratum one Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers for use freely by anyone! Built in 2012 with a kind grant from CIRA, as of August 2015, there were over 1.2 million queries peak daily! These public facing servers sync with local (non-public) stratum zero sources (eg. CDMA and GPS) owned by TorIX and therefore are extremely accurate sources for time. The service is reachable at ntp.torix.ca and we also participate in pool.ntp.org (which accounts for much of the usage). We encourage all TorIX members to include our NTP service within their network and offer the service to your users, after all it is completely free! Windows users click here for Microsoft's instructions, Mac OS X or *nix users can find a multitude of ways using your favorite search engine.

AS112 Project [reachability: TorIX only]

We participate in the AS112 Project which answers DNS queries for private IPv4 and IPv6 address ranges (eg. RFC1918, RFC4193). The TorIX-based node is announced only to TorIX peering at the Exchange (and by extension, their users) via our Route-Servers. The AS112 Project is run by volunteers with instances of the name servers that answer reverse DNS lookups for v4 and v6 private network (RFC1918, RFC4193) and link-local addresses sent to the public Internet. These queries are ambiguous by their nature, and can not be answered correctly. Providing negative answers reduces the load on the public DNS infrastructure. For support issues related to our AS112 node, please contact the TorIX Operations group. For more information, check out the AS112 Project website!

Bell Canada/Nexxia Wholesaler Mailing List [reachability: verified wholesalers only]

We host the "nexxia" mailing list, which is for Bell Canada (formerly Bell Nexxia) wholesale customers to communicate about issues related to those services. Originally hosted by the now defunct service provider iStop, the list is restricted to wholesalers only (so please do not ask if you are not one). If you are, contact us at support [at] torix.ca and we will add you to the list.

Canadian TPIA Wholesaler Mailing List [reachability: verified wholesalers only]

This is a mailing list discussing Canadian TPIA issues within the Canadian TPIA wholesaler community. This list is restricted to wholesalers only (so please do not ask if you are not one). If you are, contact us at support [at] torix.ca and we will add you to the list.

More projects will be announced in the coming months...
